Review: Grosvenor House in Dubai
I recently stayed at Grosvenor House for two nights and I am happy to share my thoughts about it. Review: Grosvenor House in Dubai. Dubai, like no other place, is a synonym for luxury and the hotels are among, or probably, the best in the world.
It is hard to be more awesome in a place where hotels are just about awesomeness. Somehow, Grosvenor House, a 5* Starwood property and part of the Luxury Collection Hotel, has managed to be even more awesome than many other great hotels.
I had visited Grosvenor House in Dubai before but did not stay overnight. However, that visit gave me an idea of what to expect, even before I checked in.
Location of Grosvenor House
The hotel is located in Marina – one of my most favorite (after the desert actually) areas in Dubai. Many stores, restaurants, and the Marina itself are close by. There is a free shuttle bus that brings you to one of the biggest malls of the Emirates – the Mall of Emirates.
The Lobby and Check-In
There are 2 towers and I stayed at Tower 1 and I have not really seen the lobby of Tower 2. While I was checking in, the staff brought me a delicious and refreshing cocktail.
As expected, the staff was very friendly and attentive.
Among all the great hotels in Dubai, the lobby at Grosvenor House has become my favorite.
Grosvenor House is more a business hotel rather than a resort or family hotel. So the atmosphere is also a bit more cold, but still incredible.
I stayed there for 2 nights and saw the flower decoration changing (from yellow to pink flowers). In the evening candles lit up the lobby which became even prettier and with a touch of romanticism. I can only recommend to check out the bathrooms in the lobby as well. Why? Because they are gorgeous.
Rooms
I had a room with a balcony which came with a beautiful view. In Dubai, construction work is always going on so there is hardly a view without any construction work. Though this is a pity, it is nothing to blame the hotel for.
The room itself was extremely clean and you can tell that the hotel is new. The marble everywhere is blitze blank and pure luxury. I knew about their toiletries before so I was not surprised to see all Bulgari luxuries in the bathroom. Although I mostly use my own products I could not help it this time – I had to take them all with me and put them in my bag :).
There is one small thing I really appreciate in Dubai. Housekeeping brings you bottles of complimentary water every day. As mentioned in another review this should be standard all over the world.
I also appreciated the phone in front of my room. Just in case you forget your room key you can just give the reception a call. There is no need to go downstairs to ask for a new card.
Breakfast
I had breakfast at Sloane Restaurant twice and it felt like a quiet paradise. The quantity was good but the quality was amazing. Think waffles, pancakes and crepes.
They had it all all.
They also had great warm dishes – even some vegetarian sushi. There were enough other desserts so I truly enjoyed breakfast. Outdoor seating is also available, but it was too hot to sit outside.
Pool at Grosvenor House in Dubai
Both towers have their own pool. Looking from my balcony I could see both pools. It seemed the pool in Tower 1 (where I stayed) was the nicer and bigger one. However, if you are looking for more pools or the beach you can check out the sister property. A little pool bar offers snacks and drinks.
Pool at Le Royal Méridien
As a guest of Grosvenor House, you have also access to the beach and pool area of the sister property of Le Royal Méridien. It is just a 3-5 minutes drive away (shuttle bus). The pool and beach area is huge and make up for the fact that Grosvenor House does not have its own beach.
Spa B/Attitude
Each tower has its own spa and I quickly passed the spa in Tower 1 on my way to the pool. I did not check it out but it looked nice. Normally I would have checked out the spa for sure. In this case, the receptionists actually recommended to check out the spa in Tower 2. The reason is simple: The B/Attitude Spa is amazing.
It is Chinese-themed and one of the most beautiful spa areas I have been to. It is probably one of the best spas in Dubai. There is a women’s section with a sauna and a whirlpool. There is also a mixed spa area with different pools and different temperatures.
The most important thing though is that of all it just looks incredible. I visited the spa twice and if you are around you should definitely try to check it out.
Housekeeping
Last but not least I would like to mention the great work of the housekeeping.
Actually, the staff is just awesome at Grosvenor House. I would like to mention the fact that housekeeping not only comes in the evening to bring you some chocolate and the weather forecast for the next day.
They also come during the day and ask if you would like to have fresh fruit (complimentary of course). I have not experienced this anywhere else. Though I am allergic to many kinds of fresh fruit (I still sometimes eat them) I appreciated the gesture.
The hotel itself is new and there is darkish marble so even if it is not clean you might not see it immediately. However, my impression was that the hotel is spotlessly clean.
Restaurants and Bars
Grosvenor House has several restaurants and bars. Especially the bars are well known in Dubai. I am not a huge bar fan so I only visited a restaurant. I spontaneously decided to have dinner at Ruya Restaurant which had opened just a few days before my stay.
It is a Turkish fine dining restaurant and the interior is beautiful and the staff is extremely friendly.
I was very not hungry so I had 2 different smaller vegetarian dishes. They were actually good and different from the Turkish food I know from Germany. The only thing I was missing was some bread which I am used to getting at every restaurant.
However, I was not very hungry so it was fine. As a guest of Grosvenor House, you get a discount. I would be happy to visit this beautiful restaurant at another time again when I am more hungry.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed my stay at Grosvenor and though it is more of a business hotel, it is a great place to relax.
Because of the proximity to the Marina, it is also ideally located. It might not be the most child-friendly hotel but it is definitely a place I would love to come back. I am not surprised that Grosvenor House keeps winning awards for its awesomeness.
