If you ask me about the most beautiful city in the world, I will tell you that it is Paris… at least at night!
As a teenager, I visited Paris a couple of times, but it took me several visits before I actually realized how pretty Paris actually is (I wrote a love letter to Paris a while ago which you can read here).
It was only on my 4th or 5th trip a few years ago when it finally hit me: Paris is the most beautiful city in the world… at night.
There is a reason why France’s capital is called the city of lights, and why there is such a fuss about Paris: Paris is awesome, Paris is fantastic, Paris is gorgeous… and at night Paris’ beauty is on another level. Though it is a nice city during daytime as well, it wears its best dress after sunset.
When the sun sets and all the lights go on, Paris shines in new splendor – literally. If you see Paris at night, you will understand why Paris is called the city of love. There is hardly anything more romantic than walking along the Seine at night, passing the illuminated buildings everywhere and crossing the beautiful bridges.
Each night there is one, or actually several, highlights. At night, the The Eiffel Tower is illuminated and at the full hour, the spectacle begins: for about 5 minutes the Eiffel Tower sparkles more than any diamond ring.
I am an adult, but witnessing the sparkling Eiffel Tower makes me feel like a kid in front of a chocolate fountain. Is there anything better than a sparkling Eiffel Tower (or a chocolate fountain)? From my experience, I can say there is not a lot that can compete with the sparkling Tour Eiffel :). And it seems that I am not the only one, since all people around me are always in awe when the show begins.
If you only had 4-8 hours in Paris, I would recommend visiting Paris at night instead of during the day so you could discover the City of Lights.
Look at the pictures and convince yourself why discovering Paris at night should be on every travel bucket list.
