BEST PLACES TO STAY IN ST.MORITZ – TOP HOTELS FOR ALL BUDGETS

WHERE TO STAY IN ST.MORITZ, SWITZERLAND

This post is for you if you’ve been wondering about the best to stay in St.Moritz.

St.Moritz is a dreamy, alpine resort destination with plenty of things to explore. It has become one of my favorite places in Switzerland because there is natural beauty everywhere. It might be known as the destination of the “rich and beautiful” but believe me when I say, it is for anyone who appreciates some stunning scenery and fun outdoor activities.

St. Moritz is the birthplace of winter sports like skiing, ice skating, and much more. However, St. Moritz is a year-round destination. If you visit outside the peak season (from April to October), you’ll find tons of things to do in St. Moritz in summer and fall. So, the question is not whether to visit St.Moritz but rather about where to stay in St. Moritz.

A little warning: Switzerland is expensive, and St.Moritz is one of the most expensive areas in the country – so, even “budget” accommodations are not cheap per se.

However, I have found good hotels for all budgets in St.Moritz. And I have one more tip for you – if you stay for two nights in the summer months (let´s say from late June to mid-October) you can benefit from the “Bergbahnen Inklusive”. I will go into detail about this offer later in the post – but this ticket can and probably will save you a lot of money. Making the stay in St.Moritz can actually become quite affordable.

FAQ: BEST PLACES TO STAY IN ST.MORITZ

Here are some tips on how to find the best hotels in St.Moritz for your trip.

WHAT IS BERGBAHNEN INKLUSIVE? STAY 2 NIGHTS + IN ST.MORITZ

If you stay at least two nights at one of the participating hotels, you get a pass called the “Bergbahnen Inklusive.” This means that you can use local buses and trains in the region + get free use of the 13 cable cars/funiculars – without any extra costs. Yes, without extra costs.

Switzerland is expensive (here are some tips on how to save money in Switzerland), and St. Moritz is super expensive – this pass allows you to save money because most activities will be free then. So, if you are considering staying one night, reconsider and make it two nights so you get that pass.

As not all hotels take part in the program, I only recommend hotels later where you can get these passes if you stay 2+ nights.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING YOUR ACCOMMODATION IN ST.MORITZ

St.Moritz is a small village in the Engadine Valley (in the canton, state, of Graubünden) – right in the Swiss Alps. Though it is an extremely popular destination- especially in the winter months – the village is rather small.

Thus, for this “St.Moritz accommodation guide” I have listed places located directly in St.Moritz but also in other villages nearby – so, here are some amazing hotels in the Engadine Valley. Within a short amount of time, you can reach St.Moritz.

When we talk about St.Moritz, there are two main areas – the upper and the lower area.

The upper area of St. Moritz is home to the village center with numerous shops and also a few cable car/lift stations – like Piz Nair Mountain, but also the main – luxury – shops and some museums.

The lower part of St.Moritz, St.Moritz Bad, is also home to – even more – accommodations and cable car/lift stations. Here, you also have regular supermarkets and a swimming pool and more.

BEST TIME TO VISIT ST.MORITZ

The optimal time to explore St. Moritz hinges on your interests.

If you’re keen on breathtaking hikes, lounging by many serene lakes, or ascending mountain peaks via cable cars, plan your visit between late June and early September.

For a captivating experience, I personally vouch for venturing to Engadine Valley and St. Moritz between mid-October and early November. The fall foliage during this period is truly mesmerizing. However, keep in mind that most cable cars cease operations by mid-October, resuming only for the winter season. It is still a great time for hikes (though some paths might be closed because of snow) and there are fewer people around.

For winter sports enthusiasts, December through early April offers the prime St. Moritz experience.
