THINGS TO DO IN ALTEA IN ONE DAY
What to do in Altea? Where to go and what to see? While there is no real to-do list, and thus, this is not a typical Altea itinerary, I recommend not rushing through the village.
STROLL THE STREETS OF THE OLD TOWN
Exploring the charming streets of this area can be a real treat, but don’t rush through it! With so many small and narrow streets to wander down, it’s easy to miss some hidden gems. Take your time, savor the sights and sounds, and who knows what delightful surprises you might discover!
VISIT THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF CONSOLATION
Nestled amidst the charm of a quaint little town is a majestic beauty that’s sure to take your breath away – the Church of Our Lady of Consolation. Though the town may be small, this grand cathedral is as regal as those in much larger cities.
Standing proudly in the bustling market square, this ornate church is a sight worth seeing for all visitors.
VISIT THE MARKET SQUARE
Discovering an array of restaurants and cafes that are open all year round is just the tip of the iceberg when visiting this bustling Mediterranean destination. You might even stumble upon some talented musicians serenading the crowds behind the market square like we did!
We were thrilled to see a group of seniors break out into a spontaneous tango, adding a touch of excitement to the already lively atmosphere. Don’t be fooled by the season, at this fun-filled spot, there’s never a dull moment!
ENJOY THE VIEWS
Did you know that the old town is perched on a hill, which means you can soak up some incredible views? One spot that shouldn’t be missed is the breathtaking Mirador de la Plaza de la Iglesia. The views are definitely worth the “hike”!
If you’re looking for more than just good food, then you’re in luck! The area boasts several eateries that offer not only meals but also stunning vistas. Whether you’re in the mood for a casual coffee or a fancy dinner, you’re sure to find a spot with a view. So why not grab a bite to eat and enjoy some eye candy at the same time?
SPEND TIME AT THE BEACH
Well, let me tell you about a charming little beach that you just have to check out! When you walk past the train station, you’ll stumble upon it. It’s perfect for soaking up the sun on a warm day, and to top it off, there are some lovely restaurants and cafes nearby.
Don’t just pop in and out of Altea, take the time to explore this amazing spot – you won’t want to leave!
CATAMARAN CRUISE
Looking for a way to unwind and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones? Look no further than Altea’s catamaran cruises! Experience the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea while sipping on your favorite drinks and watching the sunset in the distance.
It’s the ultimate way to end a perfect day in Altea. Don’t miss out on this chance to make unforgettable memories with your friends and family.

ALTEA TRAVEL TIPS
Altea is a city and municipality located north of Alicante and just around 10 kilometers from Benidorm and Calpe. With about 22,000 inhabitants it is rather small. Especially the old town – the area we focus on today – feels like a village.
When to Visit Altea
If you’re looking for a serene getaway with mild weather and fewer tourists, Altea is the perfect destination.
Though we visited in November and found the streets mostly empty, it’s recommended to visit from March to June or September to early October for the optimal experience.
Don’t worry about overcrowding, Altea is not overrun by tourists but has become more popular in recent years. You can definitely have an amazing time even in high season. So pack your bags and head to Altea for a rejuvenating vacation!
How to Get to Altea
The best way to get to Altea is by tram from the bigger cities nearby. Altea has a tram station, so whether you get to Altea from Benidorm or Alicante, it is the easiest and most convenient transport mode. A return ticket from Alicante is only about 10€, less from Benidorm.)
It takes about one hour from Alicante, but the tram ride is lovely, with great views of the beaches and towns included. Once you are out of the tram, you will see the blue dome, so head toward the hills (it is just a short uphill walk), and you are there.
Where to Stay in Altea
We – a friend of mine and me – did not stay in Altea but in Alicante. However, personally, I would have loved to stay in Altea in hindsight. Watching the sunrise in the mornings must be great – also you are close to other places in Costa Blanca – like Benidorm, Alicante or Valencia.
➡️ If you are looking for a luxury hotel in Altea, then check out SH Villa Gadea. It is a luxury accommodation close to the town center. The views look great, and the overall ratings make it look like a great place to stay near/in Altea.
➡️ If you are looking for a more budget-friendly place in Altea, check out FH Altea Centro Historico. It seems like a wonderful place if you don’t need luxury and need a clean place to stay. Then this could be the place to stay.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON YOUR ALTEA ITINERARY
Small but extremely cute – this is Altea, one of the most beautiful places in Costa Blanca. There are not tons of places to visit and yet it makes a perfect day trip or even a great base – Altea seemed to be the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the perks of slow travel.
Altea is a Mediterranean destination that has something for everyone. From the charming streets and grand churches to the beaches and breathtaking views, this area will never cease to amaze you. With its mild weather, delicious food, and abundance of activities, it’s no wonder why so many people flock to Altea every year.
Altea is – without question – very unique, but here is another very unique destination at Costa Blanca.
