Bucket List: Costa Rica – Top Things to Do
A while ago, Costa Rica made it on my list: my bucket list! Lately, I have been doing more and more research on Costa Rice. So, not surprisingly, Costa Rica is in my “top 5 destinations to visit in South and Central America” and I am working on my Costa Rica itinerary.
In case you are wondering why let‘s just say that I strongly assume that the country is amazing and has tons to offer.
The tourism sector is growing rapidly, and after talking to some South and Central America experts, I learned that Costa Rica has one of the best infrastructures and is very safe – thus, a great place for female solo travelers like me.
I love reading posts on things to do and see in Costa Rica, and though I have not booked a flight yet, I am pretty sure I know what I am going to do in Costa Rica. And if you ask me, I am sure I found great tips for your Costa Rica trip as well.
#1 Staying in a Mansion
If I visit Costa Rica, I will definitely stay in one of the amazing Costa Rica mansions. Seriously, those accommodations look amazing, don‘t you agree? It would be the perfect place to relax and chill as most of my planned activities would include action and activity.
#2 Volcano Hikes
Costa Rica is famous for its incredible scenery – volcano hikes are probably one of the highlights and must-do activities. Hiking on those volcanos has been added to my Costa Rica itinerary. Though I am not a good hiker (I normally only hike down), the volcanos in Costa Rica are very tempting – the Arenal and Chato volcanos are most likely worth the hike.

#3 Observing Wildlife
If you ask me about Costa Rica, wildlife is the first thing that comes to mind. I think about the cute sloths (which you should never touch, as it really stresses them), which you can spot in the wildness, colorful birds, or about going whale or dolphin watching. I am sure that Costa Rica has some of the most diverse and interesting wildlife in the Americas.
#4 Chasing Waterfalls
Is there anyone out there who is not fascinated by waterfalls? I seriously doubt it! No wonder, since waterfalls just make every place better – and Costa Rica has some beautiful-looking waterfalls, like La Fortuna Waterfall or La Paz Waterfall, just to name two.
#5 Watching Sunsets
Once upon a time, I read somewhere that Costa Rica has one of the most amazing sunsets in the world, so I did some further research. It seems to be true; sunsets are a dramatic and multicolored spectacle. Though it is said that the sunsets are pretty from almost any spot in Costa Rica, I cannot wait to watch a few sunsets at the beach.
#6 Jumping into a Hot Spring
Costa Rica is well-known for its hot springs – jumping into hot thermal water heated by active volcanoes is a dream come true! The areas of Arenal and La Fortune have some amazing hot springs. You have the choice of free hot springs or more private ones – whichever you or I opt for, it will probably be one of the best things to do in Costa Rica.
#7 Exploring the Beaches
Costa Rica has so much to offer that its beaches are probably not one of the first things that I associate with it, do you? It seems that I really need to change this, as the beaches look absolutely amazing and they are probably just waiting for me to visit. Manuel Antonia Beach is very high on my list as it is said to be one of the most beautiful ones. Whether you visit the beaches in Costa Rica with your family (with babies and kids or as a single adult, this is probably something anyone will enjoy).
#8 Scuba Diving
Though I am terribly scared of sailing (and once stopped snorkeling after only 1 minute), I´d definitely love to try out scuba diving. Costa Rica is well-known for scuba diving, and we all should overcome our fears – so Costa Rica is a place I would like to overcome mine so that I can witness the mesmerizing underwater biodiversity with my own eyes.
#9 Strolling on Hanging and Suspension Bridges
“Fake it ‘til you make it.“ I always pretend to be super cool when walking on suspension or hanging bridges, even though my heart is normally skipping a few beats. Mistico Hanging Bridges is a 3 km long trail with more than 16 suspended and hanging bridges. Though this is not the only cool suspension/hanging bridge, it is definitely on my list.
# 10 Boat Touring
I probably said it a trillion times, and as a regular reader/IG follower, you might know that I cannot stop emphasizing it enough, but discovering places via boat is really cool. Island hopping, sunset cruises, or just regular boat cruises – getting around with a boat is exactly my kind of thing. Fortunately, there are many ways to do so in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is also very romantic, so it is a great getaway for bird lovers.
