There are times I think I have done quite a bit of traveling and cannot believe how many great places I have seen already. Then I do some research, get inspired by social media channels like Instagram or Pinterest or blogs and realize: I may have seen a bit of the world, but there are tooooons of great places that I have not been to. My hunger for visiting new places and traveling to already known places seems to be endless.
Though I am a city girl, my heart melts just by looking at pictures of gorgeous beaches online and in magazines. Seeing all the “Top 50 Beaches in the World” or similar lists, I have started thinking about my own list “Top 20 Beaches I Would Like to Visit”.
It would have been easier to list 1,000 beaches I would love to visit but for now, I am happy to list only 20 beaches around the world that are very, very high on my bucket list. Though I always enjoy checking posts about the “20 Best Beaches/Cities in the World,” I know it is difficult to name them if we have not seen them all.
However, this did not stop me from making my own list with beaches I am crazy to visit soon.
Talking About Beaches: How to Pack for Your Next Summer Holidays
I am sure if you are a beach person, you’ll enjoy the pictures as much as I do. I have not put the beaches in any particular order, I was picky enough choosing only 20 beaches/islands. There is only one exception: the last beach on this list is actually the one I think might be the most stunning beach of all. Enjoy:
Here we are, 20 best beaches for your (and my) bucket list.
Balos Beach in Greece
Balos Beach in Greece has made it on my list of a dream beach! Why? I love the unique and unusual shape of the island and the water just looks amazing.

Maldives
I could not decide on one particular beach and thus name Maldives as a whole. I guess no “Best Beaches Around the World” list would be complete without naming Maldives, but looking at the pictures, it does not come as a surprise.
Rarotonga Island, Cook Islands
Okay, I admit that I have not seen many pictures of Rarotonga Island, Cook Islands and had not known much about it. But after having seen this picture I did some research and do not understand why the population of the Coo Island is dropping – after all, they can call this gorgeous place home.

Perhentian Islands in Malaysia
I visited Malaysia once and went to Langkawi (read about this stunning island here) – though I do not regret having gone to Langkawi, I would love to visit the Perhentian Islands anytime (preferably soon).
Phang Nga Bay in Thailand
Well, it does not come as a surprise that I had to add at least one Thai island/beach on the list. I was not sure which beach should make it on my top 20 bucket list, and eventually decided for Phang Nga Bay.

Camps Bay Beach in South Africa
Beautiful Camps Bay Beach in South Africa is actually the only beach in this list I have already visited. I was there a few years ago in October and it was pretty cold so we enjoyed some walking on the beach, but could not go in or even relax at the beach, so I put Camps Bay Beach in summer on my bucket list.
Anse Lazio, Praslin Island, Seychelles
Is this beach real? The Seychelles probably have the best beaches in the world, and whenever I spot a beautiful beach picture with giant rocks I immediately think of Seychelles. Praslin Island is on the top of my bucket list. If you want to find out more about the Seychelles, including the bad and good, read the Pros and Cons of Visiting Seychelles.

Playa del Norte Beach in Isla Mujeres, Mexico
I have never made it to Mexico, and if I do, I would not know which place to visit first. Maybe the Playa del Norte Beach in Isla Mujeres would be one of my first stops.

Siesta Beach in Miami, USA
I have seen some pretty gorgeous beaches on the west coast of the USA, but the beaches of Florida, and in particular the Siesta Beach in Miami, are on my list for the future. Find out more about Sarasota in Florida.
Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos Islands
I know very little about the Turks and Caicos islands, but it seems the beaches are stunning – like the Grace Bay Beach.
Amanohashidate in Japan
I am very surprised myself to put a Japanese beach on my list (no offense, Japan) but this beach in Kyoto looks pretty amazing.

Sancho Beach in Brazil
One of Brazil’s beaches has made in in the top 20 – Sancho Beach (also known as Baio do Sancho) looks like a beach I could fall for.
Hawaii in the USA
The beaches of Hawaii normally fill several spots in each “Top X Beaches Around the World” – I decided on this one: the Na Pali Coast at Honopu Valley and Kalepa Ridge.
Find out more about places to visit in Hawaii. For more Hawaii travel tips check out the 10-day Hawaii itinerary. SO, whether you visit Hawaii in winter or summer, it is always worth to spend time at the beaches.
El Nido in the Phillippines
My Instagram feed is flooded with pictures of Philippine beaches – I still cannot get enough. El Nido has made it in my top 20, find an El Nido guide here.
Eagle Beach in Aruba
Another island in the Caribbean/ South America with stunning beaches and crystal clear water – this beach can be found in Aruba and is called Eagle Beach.
Bora Bora
Heaven is a place on earth – if you are on Bora Bora with its top notch beaches for the pretty and rich (and me, one day).
Bora Bora also makes a great honeymoon destination.
Trunk Bay, St. John, US Virgin Islands
Lately, I have only heard about tax evaders in connection with the Virgin Islands, though that mainly refers to the British Virgin Islands. But look at this picture! The Virgin Islands are so much more than just a paradise for those who refuse to pay taxes (at least I can say that for the Trunk Bay – part of the US Virgin Islands).
Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda
This Atlantis island has been voted to one of the best beaches in the word: Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda.
Tikehau Island, French Polynesia
This gem lies in-between Australia and South America, and also made it on my list. Tikehau Island in French Polynesia is just too pretty not to be listed.
Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island, Australia
I am wondering if it would hurt to fall from 1-2 meters and land on the sand of Whitehaven Beach. Or if it would feel like falling on cotton? The sand seems to be the finest sand I have ever seen, and I can hardly imagine this is real. But most of all, I can bite myself in the ass for not having visited Whitehaven Beach when I was in Queensland a few years ago (the Gold Coast in Queensland also has amazing beaches, but this seems like a beach from another planet).
