Review: Hotel Caprice in Grindelwald
“Small but beautiful and lovely to the smallest detail.” That is the slogan of Hotel Caprice which is located in Grindelwald (Jungfrau region) in Switzerland.
I stayed at the family-run hotel for two nights when I visited the most gorgeous area of Bernese Oberland. Grindelwald is actually a very popular winter destination because it offers great skiing opportunities – I visited in summer though and enjoyed a summer vacation.
Hotel Caprice is located in Grindelwald, a very popular little town (or village) “close” to places like Jungrfraujoch, Schilthorn, Interlaken, Lake Brienz or Lake Thun, nestled between mountains and nature. The hotel itself is just a stone throw from the train station of Grindelwald. Though it is behind the station it is pretty quiet and I did notice any noises in my room. In two minutes I arrived at the village center. I came by car and was happy to find out that free parking is available just in front of the hotel.
I was welcomed with a little private note and a little Toblerone chocolate (always a good idea). My room was located on the ground floor with direct access to the garden – with a beautiful view of the Alps. Waking up with views like these are just more fun. I did not stay in the hotel a lot, and I was not very lucky with the weather so I did not have many chances to sit outside and enjoy this beautiful view actually. However, I think it offers you great chances to relax after a busy day. There are different types of rooms (24 rooms in general) but since I did not spend much time in the hotel I was fine with my smaller room.
Considering the size and hotel category (3*) I was very pleased with the breakfast. I was asked what kind of eggs I preferred and there were quite some good (healthy and hearty) options – even for me as a vegetarian who also does not eat raw cheese. My dog was not allowed to be with me and I just left him in the car and so I rushed a bit. If the weather had been better I most likely had sat outside and enjoyed those views.
The hotel also has a whirlpool, a Finnish sauna, and Turkish steam bath – unfortunately, I did not get the chance to use any of those facilities due to the limited time I had (would have loved to use the whirlpool).
The hotel is family-run but I mostly dealt with the husband Alexander Glarner, who was at the reception while I saw Regula Glarner during breakfast time. All my questions were answered at any time and I think the hotel is how you imagine a little family run hotel. Cute and with a personal touch. My dog also connected immediately with the owners but luckily he did not see the cats which are in the hotel as well.
I would definitely come back to the hotel due to the perfect location, great views, and the lovely hosts – knowing about the prices in Switzerland the hotel offers good value for money.
Disclaimer: I was invited by Hotel Caprice in Grindelwald and most costs were covered (except WiFi and extra costs for the dog) but as always, all pictures and opinions are my own.
